Highlights
As a part of the Regional Cancer Program, the Radiation Therapy / Treatment Planning Department of the Juravinski Cancer Centre is a growing program that provides state-of-the-art planning, simulation and treatment for both external beam radiation and brachytherapy as well as comprehensive support for Radiation Therapy patients.
Currently, there are three CT Simulators, an MRI Simulator, a state-of-the-art treatment planning system, 10 Varian Linear Accelerators, an Ortho-Voltage machine, an HDR Brachytherapy suite, and a CyberKnife unit.
We are the first hospital in Canada to introduce Halcyon linear accelerators. Halcyon machines deliver radiation therapy to cancer patients four times faster than the previously used machines.
At our McMaster Children’s Hospital, the Pediatric Radiation Therapy program ensures families have a safe, welcoming and entertaining waiting area for children undergoing radiation treatment. The team utilizes a variety of toys, activities and rewards to encourage children to actively participate in their radiation treatment.
