As an emergency or critical care nurse at HHS, you will provide highly specialized care to a diverse patient population.
You will have access to advanced technology and training, including opportunities to join the Critical Care Response Team (CCRT) or the Critical Care Transport Team.
We also offer our Critical Practice Orientation (CPO) program, which is exclusively available at HHS. This in-house training program is designed to give nurses at any stage of their career the skills and confidence to thrive in emergency and critical care settings.

- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS)

HHS has several specialized intensive care areas including:
- Cardiovascular ICU with the highest number of cardiovascular surgeries in the province.
- Neurological Trauma ICU provides regional specialized care in areas like neurosciences and spine.
- Neonatal ICU, one of the largest NICUs in Canada, provides care for more than 1500 babies and their families every year.
Our nurses use innovative treatments including Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO), Impella Intra-aortic Balloon Pump and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapies (CRRT).
Our three additional Medical Surgical ICUs provide specialized levels of care to the hematology, oncology, orthopedic, medical and surgical patient populations throughout Hamilton and Niagara.
HHS has four unique Emergency Departments, serving patients of all ages, from infants to older adults, across the greater Hamilton and Niagara region. In both our large urban trauma centres and our community hospital setting, our teams provide critical, high-quality care in fast-moving environments where every second counts.
