A Nurse Practitioner (NP) at Hamilton Health Sciences works autonomously and in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team to provide direct patient care. This includes diagnosis and assessment, coordination of care, discharge planning, and the coordination of related community and other resources for all patient populations.
Our NPs provide mentorship to other disciplines and take part in leading programs, presentations, publications, evaluations, research initiatives, and other system changes to continue the enhancement of interdisciplinary care teams.

Highlights
To meet the growing needs of our patients diagnosed with blood cancers, our complex malignant hematology team now includes multiple NPs. To encourage NPs to work in this specialty, in 2020, HHS launched a first-of-its-kind, one-year Nurse Practitioner Fellowship Program in complex malignant hematology.
HHS’ McMaster Children’s Hospital offers one the largest pediatric mental health programs in Canada. Our NPs help lead the Child and Youth Mental Health program’s outpatient services at Ron Joyce Children’s Health Centre to ensure the best system of support is provided to pediatric patients.
Our NPs are celebrated and supported in their pursuit of research and education through grants and awards, such as through our annual HHS Nursing Awards.
